Osprey

Pandion haleiaetus

The Osprey has made an amazing comeback, since the use of the chemical DDT was discontinued in the 1960's. The bird nests in high places like the tops of snags (dead trees still standing), telephone and power poles, and the like. They love to soar in the mini-ridge currents over the western bluff of the Indian River Lagoon, looking for their meals. They are known as fish- or sea- hawks.
