Audubon noted in his observations of this species that once the young are grown, the adults become so intolerant of them, they often steal prey from each other while hunting. That is quite interesting in terms of my experience, as I watched this adult, with little patience, attempt to teach an almost full-grown protege’ how to hunt in the studio’s back yard, with no success. The critters (rabbits, squirrels, et. al.) were soon so unimpressed, they came back out to eat at the feeders. The teacher repeatedly flew in circles striking pine branches with its wing in frustration, while the student just sat in a tree watching. Teenagers....
