Point Man
'Point Man' (16 x 20 collection of Tim and Judy Smith)
Sandhill Crane pair
Grus canadensis
These magnificent animals mate for life, and watch over one another while feeding, to protect each other from ever-present predators. Hence the title, from the military term for the first man in the file while moving thru enemy territory. I mistakenly titled this piece, thinking at the time that the female, needing a large size to accommodate her eggs, was the larger of the pair. I later learned that the male is indeed the bigger bird, thus this should more appropriately be called 'Point Woman' -- only the second mistake of my life :)...
