Osprey
Pandion haleiaetus
This hunter checked me out as I was shooting images of another bird, perhaps a grown chick or a mate. When I developed the image and looked at it, I was struck by the thought that it must be much like the last thing many fish ever see. The osprey is unique amongst raptors in that out of the four talons on each foot, it is the only one that can 'roll' a talon forward for a 2-forward 2-back configuration. All other raptors use a three-forward one-back capture regime. This adaption may help the Osprey hold on to slippery fish better.
