Heartbreak Hotel

'Heartbreak Hotel'  16 x 20 collection of Nick and Sharalyn Tsamoutales

Located in Keenansville, in Osceola County, south of Highway 192, and just west of old Highway 441, this red brick building was painted over by his brother when Webb died, the brother ashamed of his deceased siblings 'proudness'... It is there today, but the name and exterior character vanished with that act.  It was originally a lodging place for the loggers of the Union Cypress Company back at the turn of the 20th century, as they took down virgin cypress, a single tree of which would take up 3 railroad cars (3/4's the size of current cars), which were shipped back to Hopkins (now south Melbourne) on the coast.  I have made a strong case that Elvis may have slept here, as he made his first singing tours by auto around the state of Florida in 1956 and 1957, before he was 'discovered'.  Back then, the band would have had to pass by on 441 as it was the only way to get from Miami to Tampa at the time.
