Great Blue Heron

 Ardea herodias

This beautiful bird stands about 4 feet tall, and has the wingspan the same spread as an Eagle.  Blue Herons fly with their necks curved back to the shoulder, unlike cranes which fly with necks extended -- a good birder's clue to figure out which is which while in flight at a distance.
