Florida Scrub Jay Chick

These friendly birds will eat out of your hand, and used to fly into our beach cottage and squawk until we put out bread crumbs or peanuts for them to eat. Today, Florida’s Scrub Jay populations are endangered . One of the largest colonies left shares the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, the Kennedy Space Center, and the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. Nothing is built there other than launch pads and support facilities, which have small footprints compared to the total land area. The rest is kept in its natural state.
